Virtual Meeting – Notes from November 11, 2020

November 11, 2020

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation and in alignment with the Town of Grimsby closures of all Town facilities, ALL GPG in-person gatherings (including monthly meetings and activities) have been cancelled.

Subsequently, a virtual meeting has been organized via ZOOM, where the following was presented/shared.

Members Presentations

Terry Lett
Hired by OBS (Olympic Broadcasting Services) to cover a number of Olympic Games, Terry took us on a tour behind the scenes, revealing the complexity of what it takes to bring these events to our TV screens. From Sarajevo Winter Games, in 1984, to London Summer Games, in 2012, Terry had an interesting career and worked with other incredibly talented people with whom he still has regular contact. Well done!

Dixie Boyd
While on a 6-month RV trip through the United States and Western Canada, Dixie shared a slice of her life through magnificent landscapes (from Arizona to the Oregon Coast and the magnificent Canadian Rockies) and endearing wildlife photographs.

Dixie also shared two slideshows she put together using PhotoStage, where she combined photos, music and fun to watch transitions.

A BIG thank you goes to Terry and Dixie for inspiring us through the evening!

October Project of the month – Slice it Up!

We had a total of 40 great photos submitted by 22 participants who sliced away all sorts of things!

Participants to the Photo Project of the Month qualified for a draw.

This month, Brian Malone was the lucky winner of a $20.00 gift card from Monks Chocolates, in Grimsby. Congratulations, Brian!

All submitted photos have been posted on our Website, under Gallery, and on YouTube.

November Project of the Month – A Shot in the Dark

The theme of our next Photo Project of the Month is “A Shot in the Dark” with a submission deadline of Sunday, January 10, 2021. This longer deadline is due to the fact that our December meeting will be entirely run by the newly formed Social Committee, covering all sorts of festive activities.

This will give our members more time to explore night photography and/or create dark backgrounds for portraiture and still life. Have fun!

The exhibition is scheduled to open on December 1, 2020, and will run until January 31, 2021.

2021 Volunteer Opportunities

Our call for volunteers was met with a great response! Many members have stepped up to assume a more active role in our Group. Thank you!

A complete list will be provided in late December or in January 2021, but our new Social Committee has already stepped in and will run the December meeting with Festive Activities.

A big thank you to Darlene Kosmack, Sandra Yemm and Shirley Gow. We are looking forward to a cheerful time in December!
