Macro, Flowers & Close-up Photography – April 25th, 2018
Hans presented his techniques for macro and close-up flowers photography.
The April meeting centered more on the joy and beauty of photography and less on the technical aspects. Hans’ presentation focussed on composition, light and colour when capturing subjects at close distances.
An eclectic collection of flowers and close-up shots was showcased in a slideshow, followed by an informal discussion and review of the shown photographs.

Meeting Minutes
April 25, 2018
Attendance: 26
Speakers:
1. Hans Voorberg: Flowers and Macro Photography
We started the meeting with a slideshow of Hans favourite flowers and nature photographs. Hans has a magic way of capturing nature’s little gems, using 40 and 85 mm macro lenses. He mostly favours minimalism and focuses on colours and shapes.
With a handmade flash diffuser and other low budget tricks, Hans knows how to manipulate light (Indoor artificial light / Outdoors “golden hour” light) to create stunning effects.
Keys to Hans approach: Enjoyment, Practice, Patience.
2. Anna Fragapane: Key Learnings from Latow Photography Club (Burlington) Seminar
Anna shared her recent experience at the Latow Seminar, lead by Canadian East Coast photographer Dave Brosha. It was an inspiring day, where Dave shared his photography journey and encouraged participants to find their own voice and tell their own story.
Key Learnings:
1. It takes time – Lots of time
2. Seek inspiration
3. Avoid the compare game
4. Practice
5. Use the story telling approach

3. Dan Lessard: Grimsby Photo Group Website
It is almost here! Dan has been working hard in creating the shell of our brand new Website and presented it to the group, asking for feedback and ideas as we move forward.
The Website will reside on Dan’s own server, with administration rights given to Ray for now. Other members will be receiving editorial privileges later on.
A discussion followed on protecting photos posted in the Gallery section of the site and the Flickr Feed (private vs. public, photos metadata, etc.).
The Website will be live on May 1, 2018. Two addresses are available: www.grimsbyphotogroup.com OR www.grimsbyphotogroup.ca
Ray ended the session with announcements on:
May Meeting: We will feature photos submitted by our members (2 photos per member, voluntary). Each photo will be reviewed and enhanced using LightRoom and other software, based on feedback from the attendees, in a positive and non-competitive way.
Details will be shared by email during the first week of May.
Upcoming Spring and Summer outings + monthly meetings.
Fall workshop: details will be provided by Ron Z. at our May meeting.
