Monthly Meeting – January – Embracing Simplicity

2020-01-08 19:00 - 21:00
Grimsby City Hall
Address: 160 Livingston Ave, Grimsby, ON L3M 4X1, Canada

Topic: “Embracing Simplicity” with Guest presenter: Jason DiMichele

Talk description:

Sometimes less is more, and this principle is often true in photography. Some of the best methods of creating a beautiful image are to remove distracting elements from a scene or to look at your subject from a different point of view. ‘Embracing Simplicity’ is about connecting with your subject through an open mind / mindful approach to composition. It is about focusing more on the creative and artistic aspects of the photographic craft, and honing your vision for creating strong, beautiful and sometimes minimalistic and abstract pieces of art with the camera.

Fee:

Members: Free
Non-Members: $10

Jason’s Bio:

Jason DiMichele is a fine art photographer from Ontario, Canada. His creative vision is fueled by his love of the outdoors and explorative nature. Jason’s photographic passions include landscapes, abandoned places, wildlife, and abstracts.

Jason is a proponent of learning the technical skills required to be proficient with your equipment and to aid in the creation of your art. However, he insists that keeping one’s creative vision at the forefront is ultimately most important. “There is always room for our vision as artists to grow and evolve. The camera sees scientifically and therefore we need to see artistically”. Capturing the viewer’s emotion and imagination allows them to resonate with his art with a sense of intrigue. His art evokes feelings of serenity, tranquility, and intimacy with the subject.

“One of the most important things that I’ve learned over the years is that it is too easy to stifle your creativity if you obsess over the technology. Being technologically proficient and knowing how to use your equipment inside and out is very important. But to me, creating my art is the most important reason I started photographing.”

Jason is an X-Rite Coloratti, a Hahnemuhle Certified Studio (fine art printing), and a ViewSonic Partner Photographer. Jason has been published in Professional Photographers of Canada (PPOC), PhotoED Guide, Outdoor Photography Canada magazine, PHOTONews, and has taught many photography courses at Humber College. Jason offers a range of services including fine art printing and art reproduction. He always welcomes the opportunity to teach and inspire others and teaches both the creative and technical aspects of photography through photo walks, presentations, and workshops.

Part of Jason’s love of what he does is sharing his knowledge. He offers training on the creative and technical aspects of photography as well as workshops and workflow/imaging consulting.

“I always try to keep a positive and optimistic outlook on life. I am always willing to help someone if I am able to. I believe that sharing information and skills is vital. We must never forget where we came from or those that helped us early in our journeys. I am very passionate about my photography and the services that I provide and am very fortunate and count my blessings that I am able to do what I love.”
