Topic: “HEART OF TURTLE ISLAND: THE NIAGARA ESCARPMENT” 

Environmental treasures, Indigenous  and settler communities of the Niagara Escarpment UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve, and an in-depth look at Mark Zelinski’s 35-year worldwide adventure culminating in his “Books That Heal Initiative”

Award-winning photographer and publisher Mark Zelinski presents a Power Point of photographs and stories from his ninth book "HEART OF TURTLE ISLAND: THE NIAGARA ESCARPMENT”. 
The images bring exquisite focus to the environmental treasures of the magnificent Niagara Escarpment, celebrating the diverse Indigenous and settler communities that thrive along its rugged, curving path.  
Its aquifers and ecosystems support hundreds of at-risk species that coexist alongside the most densely populated and heavily developed region in Canada. 
Fee:

$10 cash at the door.
All welcome! Doors open at 6:45 PM for registration.

BIOGRAPHY: 

Mark Zelinski trained as an artist and a designer, and graduated as the top student of OCAD in 1979.  His diverse career as a professional photographer has taken him across 80 countries, with clients ranging from The National Film Board of Canada to Panasonic.
He is also a publisher, writer, painter, filmmaker, a Fellow of Royal Canadian Geographical Society and winner of the Canadian Governor General’s Medal.  
Zelinski is best known for his “Books That Heal” initiative – donating 7,000 copies of his photography books to 100 worldwide charities. His nine internationally acclaimed photography books include forewords by HRH Prince Philip, The Honourable Lincoln Alexander, HRH Prince Andrew, AFN Ontario Regional Chief Isadore Day and The Right Honourable Justin Trudeau.

    Peter has traveled to many unique locations in the world photographing landscapes and sharing his knowledge in workshops, blogs, and magazine articles.

    Peter regularly leads photography courses and workshops for novice and enthusiast photographers across Southern Ontario as an Canon & Hahnemuhle ambassador.

    Topic: "Constructive Critique of Photography"

    Talk description:

    Learn what makes a successful image and how to provide constructive criticism of photographs.

    We will discuss impact, compositional elements and other technical aspects that affect image success.

    Examples of providing critique using these elements will be discussed.

    Bios:

    Laura Hackenbrock is an award-winning photographer living in Oro Valley, Arizona.

    She has many varied areas of interest within her hobby, and she sees the world through the camera lens.

    She is especially interested in macro photography and anything Arizona.

    Laura has been taking photographs for over 50 years. However, she became serious about making photographic art after moving to Tucson in 2005. She enjoys working with other photographers through classes, workshops and judging local photography contests. Laura’s work has been displayed in several locations in the Tucson area.

    Laura grew up in New York, Baltimore, North Carolina and Dallas, TX. She also spent 15 years in Atlanta, GA.

    Laura’s education is in Mathematics, and she taught Math before moving to Arizona.

    Topic: "Members Photo Share" & AGM 

    Talk description:

    Once a year, the Grimsby Photo group offers an opportunity to its members to showcase their favourite Photographs. 

    Members volunteer to share with the group a selection from their portfolio telling us stories about them.

    A most enjoyable and fun evening not to be missed.

    The Annual General Assembly (AGM) will also take place during the meeting and the members will have an opportunity to review last year's activities, and financial status and vote for a new Management Committee to lead the group.

    Topic: "Bring Your Own Camera Photoshoot" by Grimsby Photo Group 

    Talk description:

    Join the Grimsby Photo Group for an evening of knowledge, practice and fun. Several stations will be set up for portraiture, macro, still, and birds/landscape.

    Rotation System:

    You will be set into groups upon sign-in.

    All stations will be marked.

    Groups will spend 15 minutes at each station.

    Each person will submit 2 photos to be shown at the end of the evening.

    Bring your camera and have fun!

    You can have it matted*, framed, on canvas, on metal, etc.
