Topic: “Wild, Weird and Wacky Weather” 

Talk description:

In a province that is so vast and surrounded by the Great Lakes, it is no wonder we have some of the most interesting weather in the world. It offers such a variety all year round because of its terrain, temperature variations and location.

Learn about Fallstreak Holes, Superior Mirages and discover how far south the Aurora Borealis can actually be seen.

This presentation combines Ontario’s weather uniqueness, power and beauty all wrapped into one.

Bio:

David T. Chapman started doing photography as well as storm chasing at the age of 16. He is self-taught in the art of photography and has been pursuing his career professionally since the age of eighteen. He learned at a very young age from his father to appreciate his surrounding environment. He enjoys taking photographs and video of weather phenomena, especially lightning, as well as scenery and nature.
 
David likes to seek out unusual examples of nature such as inferior mirages, albino birds, ice caves and various types of naturally created vortexes, ranging in size from dust devils to tornadoes. To date, he has found multi-petalled Ontario trilliums, the highest of which had 33 petals.
 
David is also a professional speaker and enjoys entertaining and educating a great crowd.
 
His main areas of expertise are Weather/Aurora Borealis, Local Interests and Scenery of Ontario, Birds and Wildlife.

    There will be no customers as it is only open to our group.
    The greenhouses will be full of different types of flowers for you to photograph.
    Bring any photo equipment you wish.
    Please submit a couple of photos on Facebook within the next week so all can see your work.

    Topic: "Finding Visual Expression Part II” 

    From time to time almost all of us can benefit from moments of inspiration, or be reminded of some fundamental photographic approaches that we can use when we’re out with our camera equipment.

    Finding Visual Expression is a non-technical photography presentation. There won’t be any long explanations on technique and camera settings, or detailed EXIF data. The objective of this presentation is very simple… to encourage photographers to experience the world around them with a renewed sense of wonder… as would a child.

    Regardless of the image making equipment that you may use… whether it is a dedicated camera of some sort... or your Smartphone, this presentation may provide you with some inspiration, or composition approaches that may be of interest.

    Finding Visual Expression is divided into a number of different topical segments. Each section begins with a short topic summary. This is followed by a selection of images that illustrate the use of that concept. Some time is allowed at the end of each segment for some brief comments and discussion.

    Sometimes all we need as photographers is a bit of inspiration. We hope you can find some of that during the upcoming Finding Visual Expression presentation by Thomas Stirr.

    BIOGRAPHY: 

    Tom’s photography journey began almost 5 decades ago when he purchased his first interchangeable lens film camera as part of his job requirements at a community newspaper. Since that time he has owned and used a variety of digital camera equipment including full frame, APS-C, Nikon 1, Olympus M4/3, and some point and shoot zoom units. Since mid-2019 Tom has been using Olympus M4/3 camera gear as his primary system. In the spring of 2020 Olympus North America named Tom a ‘Featured Pro’ and profiled his work on their corporate website.

    Before launching his own photography website in January 2015, Tom wrote over 145 photography articles that appeared on leading photography websites such as Photography Life, Mirrorless Comparisons, Nikon Rumors and Photo Rumors. Over the past nine years Tom has created and published more than 1,300 articles on his photography website (https://smallsensorphotography.com) and shared almost 14,000 of his original photographs with his readers.

    Tom has authored 7 photography related eBooks which have been purchased by readers in more than 30 countries around the world. He currently has several additional photography eBooks under development.

    During the period when Tom was doing client work he specialized in industrial photography and safety videos. He also created and produced a custom line of over 150 business-related posters. At the end of 2022 Tom decided to withdraw from client assignments so he could devote more time to his photography website and eBooks.

    Topic: "Nature As I See It – A Passion for Photography." by Paul Janosi

    Talk description:

    The presentation covers different types of photography including underwater, waterfalls, landscape, macro plus wildlife and birds.
    I have traveled extensively and will show my favorite images from different locations including Underwater photography from the Caribbean Sea, bird photography from Ontario, New York, Newfoundland, Florida, Texas, Costa Rica, Ecuador and Columbia. Landscape photography from Canadian Rockies, Grand Teton, Yellowstone and Monument Valley National Parks, Fall colors / waterfalls from Ontario, Pennsylvania and New York state.

    It also covers equipment and techniques used to take the pictures. Noise reduction, Photoshop etc.

    Bio:

    Paul Janosi is a Mississauga based freelance photographer specializing in Nature Photography, Landscape photography and Underwater Photography.

    After receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from Concordia University in Montreal, he continued his education in Photography at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and at Sheridan College.

    He was the Past President of the Canadian Society of Underwater Photographers and the past Vice President of the Mississauga Camera Club. He was a Contributing Editor of Diver Magazine, Dive Ontario and La Plongee.

    He conducts Nature photography workshops, Photoshop workshops as well as conduct lectures on Nature and Landscape Photography for Camera clubs.

    He also conducted numerous Underwater Photography Seminars aboard the Liveaboard Dive Boat Caribbean Explorer and did a four part Photography Lecture Series for Just Cameras. He was featured on Behind The Lens TV Show.
