Topic: “From Solar to Survival” by Jim Holmes
Talk description:
Documentary photography is an exploration of the human condition, the drama and the normality and building a narrative that tells this story to others.
Afghanistan and Mongolia share similar landscapes, stark yet beautiful, but my photographic assignments to these two places were to focus on the people, not the places.
Long 4-wheel drive journeys to visit remote communities, sometimes nomadic, that were benefitting from solar power or basic education. I was travelling into the unknown assured these areas were still (relatively) safe and not knowing what I would find.
