Our “ illuminating” June meeting topic included an introduction to Flash Photography, focussing on the use of electronic flashes (including built-in, pop-up) with cameras. Ron Zabel reviewed situations where we might choose to use a camera flash, discussed the elements of flash exposure and methods of flash firing, and provided an overview on flash lighting modifiers.

2. Greg Smith – Sebastiāo Salgado
This month, Greg’s segment on renown photographers focussed on Brazilian social documentary photographer and photojournalist Sebastiāo Salgado.
Born in 1944, Salgado has travelled the world and his impressive portfolio of Black & White photographs testify of his social engagement.
His photographic projects include:
1993 – Workers: Archaeology of the Industrial Age
1997 – Terra: Struggle of the landless
2000 – The Children: Refugees and Migrants
2013 – Genesis
2014 – From my Land to the Planet
2015 – The Scent of a Dream: Travels in the World of Coffee
In 2014, his son Juliano Ribeiro Salgado directed a documentary – The Salt of the Earth – on the legacy of his father.
3. Anna Fragapane – Photo Project of the Month
Starting this month, the Grimsby Photo Group is launching a theme-based Photo Project.
Objectives:
. To get out and take pictures
. To improve our photographic eye
. To try different angles and perspectives
. To share our pictures with the group
Details
. Take pictures based on the monthly theme (announced at the monthly meeting)
. Choose ONE picture and e-mail it to grimsbyphotogroup@gmail.com
. Deadline will be one week prior to the next monthly meeting
. All entries will be collected and shown as a slideshow at the next meeting
