Composition (Part 1) – Notes from January 9, 2019
Welcome to 2019! We are off to another exciting year!
As we focus on the creative side of photography, we started the year with a deeper look at composition, through video presentations and discussions. Part 2 will be presented at our February meeting.

Composition – Part 1
To kick off the year under the theme of creativity, Ray shared some learning videos with the group, covering composition elements such as Centering the subject, Rule of thirds, Golden triangle and Golden spiral (Composition-Beyond the Rule of Thirds, with Chris Knight). We also examined the 10 Deadly Sins of Composition, a CreativeLive video with Art Wolf.
Ray also illustrated how you can use composition grids when cropping photos in Lightroom.
A basic presentation and links to the videos can be found on our website, under Resources.
December Photo Project of the Month – Festive Glitter
With 17 participants, the “festive” look of the holiday season was well represented.
Those who submitted a photo for the Photo Project of the Month qualified for a draw. Again, the prize was a $25.00 gift certificate from Framecraft Ltd. The lucky winner was Ron Zabel. Congratulations, Ron!
Check our website, under Gallery, to see all submitted photos.
January Project of the month
The theme of our next Photo Project of the Month is Winter Wonders, with a submission deadline of February 7, 2019.
All photos will have to be submitted as follows:

Announcements
1. Group Brochure
We are finalizing a three-fold colour Brochure to showcase and advertise our group activities.
It will cover our mission, summarize our activities, list our meeting dates and fees, and provide some basic information on how to reach us.
We I’ll officially launch our brochure during our February meeting.
2. Financial Status
2018 was a productive year, with increased activities, and we ended with a small financial loss. This loss, however, was offset by the cash surplus we had, so we are still in the black.
With the 2019 increase of our meeting fee and a new attendance fee structure that will be effective in February, we will be in a better position to enhance our activities, including workshops and invited speakers.
3. Leadership Team
In early December of 2018, a team has been put together to help with the governance of our group. This will help us to make collective decisions and to share tasks. The team will reach out to the group for help with specific projects, as needed.
Here are the six team members, in alphabetical order:
Anna Fragapane
Ray Fragapane
Paul Jackson
Shirley Rawlings
Hans Voorberg
Ron Zabel
